As members of PASE you should be aware that EGRPS is intending to eliminate the position of Intervention Specialist in the coming school year.
EGRPS says that they use RTI (Response to Intervention) as a key way to identify kids with additional needs and those who may need IEPs (special ed). In our opinion, however, RTI is not actually widely nor consistently used and few staff are even trained in its use. Nonetheless, the intervention specialist is a key component of making RTI work and having RTI actually identify kids who need help.
You can read more about the proposed elimination of this position, which EGRPS says they will *not* be backfilling with other staff: http://www.egr-special-ed.org/general-discussion/i-guess-we-do-not-care-if-egr-kids-cannot-read/

For the sake of the kids, please push the administration to not eliminate this position.
